OREANDA-NEWS. On Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 March, the eyes of the world will briefly be focused on The Hague, during the Nuclear Security Summit. During this two-day event, the Netherlands will be welcoming 58 world leaders and heads of state, plus an entourage of 3,000 journalists and 5,000 other participants.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has been designated as the host airport for the NSS. From 10 March, Runway 18R-36L (the Polderbaan) will be taken out of use to prepare for receiving the delegations and for parking government aircraft. This runway has been designated for the reception as it offers the best security and logistics.

Regular air traffic operations will continue at Schiphol and will be distributed across the remaining four runways. The restriction of airspace and the airport's hourly capacity at certain times during this period may require some flight schedule adjustments. Passengers will be informed by the airlines if and as needed.

Airport access will also present some challenges during the summit. Due to planned national motorway closures and the likelihood of traffic jams, Schiphol advises travellers to make the journey by train, if possible. Dutch Railways (NS) will be operating longer trains during this period.
