OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus was there to witness a 1.6% inflation growth in January 2014, the National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a press-release.

Food prices grew 2.3% in January 2014, including the price of foodstuffs - up 1.5%, Belstat informed.

The price of the following food products went down month on month in January: eggs - down 0.1% , sugar - 0.1%.

The price of the following food products went up in January: pasta - up 3.1%, flour - up 1%, bread and bakery goods - up 0.3%, potatoes - up 9%, fruits - up 5%, confectionery goods - up 1.1%, tobacco goods - up 15.9%, alcoholic beverages - up 4.5%, fish and seafood - up 2.1%, cheeses - up 2.2%, butter - up 2.1%.

Non-food prices grew 0.6% on the month in January 2014.

The price of the following non-food products went down in January: footwear - down 1%.

Prices of bicycles and motorbikes grew 0.9% on the month in January, medications - up 1%, construction materials - up 0.9%, consumer electronics - up 0.6%, furniture - 0.5%, carpets - up 0.1%, perfumes and cosmetics - up 0.4%, fabrics - up 0.8%, detergents - up 1%.

Utility tariffs grew 1.6% on the month in January 2014. Tariffs on household services grew 2.8% on the month in January 2014: gas - up 3.3%, water supply - up 0.2%, central heating - up 10.5%.

Passenger tariffs grew 1.6% on the month in January 2014, medical services - up 2.8%.

Belarus' government expects inflation growth to stay under 11% in 2014. Belarus' consumer prices grew 16.5% in 2013, while the government's forecast stood at 12%.
