OREANDA-NEWS. February 20, 2014. Taishan, the fourth research station of China in Antarctica, which was subcontracted by the 17th China Metallurgical Construction Group (17MCC Group), was completed and put into operation.

Taishan Research Station, the country's fourth summer field camp and Antarctic base is situated in Princess Elizabeth Land of the South Pole. It is 522km away from Zhongshan Station, 715km away from Kunlun Station, with an altitude of about 2,621m.

The station is capable for 20 persons for investigation and living purpose. It consists of three storey respectively for equipment, living and observation. The station is designed with a total height of 13m, covering a floorage area of 410 square meters. It can fully meet the demands for observation, command, living, living facilities, first-aid medical treatment, logistical support and treatment of reclaimed water. In addition, snow-ice runway is built for fixed-wing aircraft, and in-land transportation vehicle team (400 tons) and the relevant equipment are also provided.

The main structure above the ground (snow), which is contracted by 17MCC Group, is built with steel structure, consisting of lower structure, upper structure, attic structure, outdoor steel ladder and flagpole. It is built up with segmental modular light metal materials, and the steel slab is made of low temperature materials.

Under this project, 17MCC Group was awarded with the contracts for civil works, manufacturing and installation of steel structure, domestic assembly of containment, installation works of water/power supply and equipment for the main station building and the auxiliary buildings.
