Toshiba Corporation announced that it will endow a scholarship fund at Brazil's University of Sao Paulo that will support students studying for MS and PhD degrees in electrical engineering. The initiative is part of Toshiba's program to support science and technology education and human resources development in South America.

Scholarships with an annual value of up to 5-million yen (R\\$116 thousand*) will be awarded. Selected doctoral candidates will receive an award of 2-million (R\\$47 thousand*), while students studying for a master's degree will be awarded 1-million yen (R\\$23 thousand*). The awards will be made at the end of February.

Brazil has the world's sixth largest GDP and strong growth dynamics. In coming years, the country will rely on a new generation of leaders to guide its development, and the University of Sao Paulo, the country's most prestigious seat of higher learning, is expected to play a major role.

Toshiba will continue to support science and technology education and human resources development in South America. The company is also committed to cultivating talented youths to secure local employment and thereby expand business opportunities.
