OREANDA-NEWS. Tata Power, one of India's largest integrated power companies, announced generation of 3,212MU of power in Q3 FY13-14 and 10,513MU in YTD FY14. The company, together with its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, has an installed gross generation capacity of 8,560MW including thermal (coal, gas and oil), hydroelectric power, renewable energy (wind and solar PV) and waste heat recovery sources, reinforcing its position as one of the largest integrated power companies in India.

The company continued its robust operations with sales volume for the quarter ended December 31, 2013, at 3,547MU. Tata Power's subsidiaries CGPL and MPL have contributed significantly after achieving full operations. Haldia plant reported generation of 246MU in the quarter ended December 31, 2013, as compared to 239MU in the corresponding quarter last year. Hydro power plants have generated 387MU as against 341MU in the previous year, recording an incremental generation of 14 percent in FY14. The company is one of the leading generators of wind and solar energy in the country and shall endeavour to get 20-25 percent of its portfolio from clean energy sources. With its relentless pursuit, Tata Power has installed generation capacity of 1,102MW through clean and green energy sources.

Commenting on the performance, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, said, “We are proud to achieve this significant milestone and will continue to enhance our generation portfolio. We have prioritised four key regions for international play including African region, South East Asian region; Middle East region and SAARC region. The company has deployed resources in these regional geographies to understand the market dynamics and scout for opportunities.”

Tata Power had recently been honoured with the Silver Shield Award by the Central Electricity Authority in two categories under its Comprehensive Award Scheme. The company has been awarded for its excellence in 'performance for distributing power to the city of Mumbai' and 'performance of thermal power company' for Trombay combined cycle power station. Tata Power won four awards at the 53rd Association of Business Communicators Awards Nite 2013 held at Mumbai and was also conferred with the CII ITC Sustainability Award 2013 for sustainable development

Tsitsikamma and Amakhala wind projects being developed by Tata Power's joint venture in South Africa, Cennergi, have achieved financial closure. The 126MW Dagachhu Project is being developed in partnership with The Royal Government of Bhutan. The civil works are progressing as planned and 99 percent concreting has been completed. Tunnel excavation and tunnel lining is in progress. The project is being pursued to be commissioned around May 2014, before the monsoon. The company has also announced the start of construction of the first phase of the 185MW Shuakhevi Hydropower Project in Georgia, being implemented through a joint venture with Clean Energy Invest AS (Clean Energy) and IFC InfraVentures, for developing hydro projects in Georgia, for sale of power primarily to Turkey. During the quarter, a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the first phase of the 185MW Shuakhevi Hydropower Project was held.
