OREANDA-NEWS. Sakhalin Energy became the winner of the annual program The Best Social Projects of Russia for 2013.

The project "Sakhalin Salmon: Ecological Education" was recognised as the best in the "Environmental Projects and Initiatives" nomination and got into the list of 20 top projects awarded at the ceremony in Moscow.

In 2013 more than 50 leading Russian and international companies took part in the contest with their social projects. The annual programme "The Best Social Projects of Russia" was established as part of the Russian government course aimed at social policy strengthening through partnerships of the state, civil society and private sector.

The project aimed at conservation of salmon species and their habitats. Those are "Kapel'ka" (Droplet) and "Salmon Patrol" educational programmes which were successfully introduced in curricula of many Sakhalin schools and kindergartens.

It is also the puppet show "How Ivan Saved the Wonder Fish" to communicate the importance of environmental protection to the young audience.

And there are other initiatives implemented involving the partners which include the Boomerang Club - the Sakhalin regional public organisation, the Sakhalin Oblast Institute of Education Development, the Center for Out-of-School Activities, the Sakhalin Puppet Theatre.
