OREANDA-NEWS.  Under the RusHydro Comprehensive Modernization Program (CMP), Power Machines OJSC completed upgrade of another hydraulic unit at Cheboksarskaya HPP with serial number 15.

Upgrading activities involved restoration of the hydraulic turbine movable-blade operation mode in factory conditions and replacement of the hydrogenerator iron rotor rim. The renovated turbine is now capable of turning impeller blades depending on load and head pressure. This will allow for extending hydraulic unit operating range and enhance hydraulic turbine technical and economic performances.

In December 2013, the hydraulic unit passed no-load tests. A final stage of the commissioning activities included reliability run, under which the unit worked under load on the network for 72 hours.

A considerable volume of works on renovating impellers at Cheboksarskaya HPP was fulfilled by specialists from RusHydro’s subsidiary – Hydroremont-VCC JSC. They dismantled the hydraulic unit prior to its dispatch to the manufacturing plant and carried out its assembly following the receipt of reconstructed parts and components at the hydraulic power plant. Employees of Hydroremont-VCC performed the entire scope of works under the guidance of the manufacturing plant’s chief engineer and specialists from Cheboksarskaya HPP.

Upgrade of the hydraulic units at Cheboksarskaya HPP is one of major projects under the CMP. Currently, six out of eighteen hydraulic turbines have been placed under the movable-blade operation mode. In coming days, parts and components of another renovated hydraulic turbine No. 6 will be delivered to the plant. In 2014, similar activities will be carried out at hydraulic units Nos. 2 and 10, which will also involve upgrading hydrogenerator stators, along with upgrading turbines. By 2025, all hydraulic units at Cheboksarskaya HPP will be upgraded.
