OREANDA-NEWS. United Metallurgical Company (Moscow-based OMK Closed Joint Stock Company) has finalized the delivery of special coated pipes for the manufacturing of pile constructions on the first, second, and third sections of the 488 km long second stage of the main Arctic Circle - Purpe oil pipeline. OMK is the only Russian pipe manufacturer for this pipeline.

OMK has delivered a total of 99,000 tons of the unique pipes in the last two years. The pipes, which have a 426 mm diameter with 12 mm and 10 mm thick walls, and a 325 mm diameter with 9 mm thick walls, were produced at Vyksa Steel Works (VSW OJSC, based in Vyksa, part of OMK) from 09G2S grade cold-resistant steel with a double insulation coating (according to the specifications of Transneft Open Joint Stock Company). The pipes are used to prepare pile supports for the pipeline's aerial crossings.

“Experts at VSW have made a considerable research and development effort. This resulted in the support pipes with the special coating having a maximum resistance to the extreme climate conditions in which the oil pipeline will be operating,” said Vladimir Markin, President of United Metallurgical Company.
