Calik Enerji won the 'Best Global Project' award, recognized as the Oscars of engineering and construction in the world, with its Al Khairat Power Plant project delivered in Karbala, Iraq. The award, which was granted to Calik Enerji this year, is given every year traditionally by the Engineering News Record Magazine published by the US-based McGraw-Hill Group by determining and publishing the Top 225 Global Contractors in the world. Calik Enerji will receive the award in the ceremony to be held in New York between May 13th and 15th.

Calik Enerji won the 'Best Global Project' award, recognized as the greatest engineering and construction award in the world, with its Al Khairat Power Plant project delivered in Karbala, Iraq.

With this award granted within the 'Industrial Facility' category of ENR, Calik Enerji won an Oscar in its field by overtaking the US-based Bechtel. Calik Enerji will receive the award in the ceremony to be held in New York between May 13th and 15th.

Dinc: "Al Khairat Power Plant is one of the most important infrastructure projects for the reconstruction of Iraq"

Assist. Prof. Dr. Osman Saim Dinc, General Manager of Calik Enerji, says, "The plant is highlighted as one of the major facilities in the country and is intended to meet one fifth of the electricity demand of Iraq. It is considered as one of the most important infrastructure projects for the reconstruction of Iraq. This award is a significant indicator of the position achieved by the Turkish engineering and construction sector in the world."

Competition among projects by giants...

The Jury Commission of the ENR Magazine, considered as the most prestigious engineering sector organization of McGraw-Hill Group, the parent group of the credit rating organization Standards and Poors (S&P), selected the 1,259-MW Al Khairat Power Plant as the best project of the year in the 'Industrial Facility' category. In the same category the American contracting company, Bechtel, won the "Award of Merit" that is considered second prize, with its casting factory in Saudi, Arabia.

Calik Enerji to receive its award in New York
Calik Enerji won this award by overtaking the US-based Bechtel, which is currently the leading company in the world's biggest companies maintaining its 1st place in the world's biggest construction and engineering companies ranking for 15 years in a row. This significant award will be presented to Calik Enerji at the 'Gala evening' to be held during the ENR Global Summit to be organized in New York between May 13th and 15th.

Winners were announced with the signature of Scott Blair, the Editor of ENR Magazine, after precise assessments made for days against the criteria set by the ENR's Jury Commission. In addition to the industrial facility category, ENR's Jury Commission also announced winners of this year for the categories including, bridge/tunnel, cultural projects, governmental buildings, green projects, production facilities, office projects, renovation projects, house projects, irrigation and recycling/recovery projects, and combined office/house/residence projects.

Firat Region to be supplied with electricity
Calik Holding supplies one fifth of the electricity demand in Iraq with the 1,259-MW power plant in Al Khairat, Karbala, Iraq. The plant is the biggest power plant in the county. The plant was completed in two years by Calik Enerji and is regarded as one of the most important projects for the reconstruction of Iraq. The plant supplies electricity to the entire Firat Region. It provides 24-hour uninterrupted electricity to a total of 5 million people in Karbala, Babylon, Najaf, and Kazima regions of Iraq. The plant has been operating at full capacity since October. The plant uses 10x GE 9E model turbines to produce power.
