OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2014. Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Pavlo Sheremeta has met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ukraine Kees Klompenhouwer, the parties discussed ways for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister noted the importance for Ukraine economic cooperation with the Netherlands, one of the main foreign trade partners of Ukraine in Europe.

Pavlo Sheremeta stressed that the Ukrainian side is interested in expanding the technical and investment cooperation with the Netherlands, especially in the energy sector. Ukraine looks forward to fruitful cooperation with the Shell in the gas sector.

By turn, Kees Klompenhouwer said that he appreciates the desire of the Government of Ukraine to implement reforms aimed at simplifying business in Ukraine and attracting investment. According to him, the signing by Ukraine an agreement with the International Monetary Fund will help to increase inflow of foreign investment into the Ukrainian economy including from the Netherlands.

"This investment will help the private sector to feel itself safety from a legal point of view. Thus the Netherlands are positively tuned to investment in Ukraine," the Ambassador said.

He also assured that the investment in the Ukraine is largely dependent on the success of the reform of the judiciary and tax systems, as well as measures to ensure the protection of property rights.

According to Pavlo Sheremeta, the opening of the European markets for Ukrainian products would enhance economic cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands. The issue of the development of new markets is extremely important for Ukraine in the conditions of necessity of reorientation of the Ukrainian export.

Kees Klompenhouwer noted that the Netherlands are ready to offer Ukraine technical assistance in creating a clear and effective system of export promotion, as they have considerable experience in this area.

The parties agreed on the need to create a "roadmap" for the development and modernization of various sectors of the Ukrainian economy, and a clear plan for its implementation.

Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ukraine announced that Dutch investors are interested in investing in Ukrainian agriculture. Currently, meetings are being held in the regions of Ukraine, to discuss possible ways of cooperation.

Other promising areas of investment are energy, energy efficiency, industry and water supply.
