OREANDA-NEWS. RWE AG has published its sustainability report for 2013. The report underlines the energy providers recognition of sustainable operations.

„Sustainability is core business if we want to be a partner of society as a whole”, says RWE CEO Peter Terium in the introductory interview to the report. “And we are moving forward. Our CO2 emissions have come down and we have increased our energy efficiency. We have continued to operate at a high level in areas where we have been good in the past - such as security of supply and community engagement in relation to European and comparative branches respectively”. To win society's trust, RWE must develop innovative products and services that both customers use and protect the environment.

This year the publication concentrates on the largest challenges the company faces in the areas of environment, society and sustainable management. This continues to include the decrease of CO2 emissions in power generation, the burden of private households due to rising energy costs as well as changes in the energy markets.

The report also presents facts and figures which show how RWE is positioned in terms of sustainability and what the company achieves for the energy transition not only for Germany, but also other European countries. It encompasses a balance over the previous year and names measureable and binding sustainability targets for the future. Included in this, amongst others, are statements on sustainable procurement of fossil fuels, approaches for more energy efficiency by RWE and its customers as well as a reduction of CO2 emissions per the amount of electricity produced. This should decrease the 2005 level by 20 percent by 2020. Alongside the technical and economic themes, the report also covers the societal challenges faced by the energy industry through the transformation of the supply system.

The report from RWE AG can be found exclusively on the internet for the third time. This way readers can also quickly access other sources of information - for example, further RWE websites, or the RWE Key Figures tool. This tool now contains over 1,700 pieces of data research which relate to the development of RWE in the areas of procurement, environment and social figures as well as the financial figures for 2006 to 2013.

As in 2012, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) audited and gave the report the highest transparency level GRI Standard “A+”. As in previous years, the testing through a certified accountant for Limited Assurance was also conducted.
