OREANDA-NEWS. High inflation growth prevents Belarus from conducting a redenomination of its home currency, NBB chairwoman Nadezhda Yermakova said in a TV interview.

Early last week President Lukashenko said everything was ready for redenomination in Belarus.

“It is preferable that redenomination should be conducted when inflation growth is represented with a one-digit figure. The time is not ripe,” Yermakova said.

A premature redenomination will call for a repetition after a short while, the NBB chief said.

Belarus was there to witness a 3.6% inflation growth in January-February 2014. Belarus' government plans to restrain inflation growth at 11% in 2014, however according to the forecast of the World Bank the figure will exceed 16%. Belarus saw consumer prices hiking by 16.5% in 2013, while the government's forecast stood at 12%.
