OREANDA-NEWS. April 24, 2014. Several international events were organized in Bucharest (Romania) devoted to publishing a 2013 Report of Romania’s Competition Council.

Attendees included Romania’s Prime-Minister, Victor Ponta; Chairman of OECD Competition Law and Policy Committee, Frederic Jenny; Deputy Director, Directorate-General for Competition, the European Commission, Gert Jan Koopman; a World Bank official, Elizabeth Capanelli; top officers of Romania’s Competition Council, members of various ministries as well as invited guests from Russia and Moldova. FAS Russia was represented by Deputy Head of Fiscal Control Department, Natalia Isaeva.

The Head of Romanian Competition Council, Bogdan Chiritoiu, reported on the Council’s achievements in 2013. Among the main areas of the Council work in 2013 as well as subsequent years he pointed out anti-cartel efforts and control over state aid.

OECD Committee Chairman, Frederic Jenny, discussed a new state aid system to be introduced in the EU from July 2014 and highlighted the problems and objectives faced by European competition authorities.

In the course of the discussions, the system of FAS regional Offices was described as an example of effective organization of antimonopoly control for European countries since it enables to promptly react to any anti-competitive actions across the entire Russia.

Conference participants noted similarity of the problems facing competition authorities of various countries and emphasized the importance and the need for closer cooperation both within the outside the European Union.
