OREANDA-NEWS. April 25, 2014. Cargo carriers of all kinds transported 957.4 thousand tons in March, up 42.7% month-on-month and 9.9% up against last March.

In Q1 2014, over 1,160,700 tons were transported by railway, up 30.4% against the same period of 2013. The biggest share of all cargoes loaded at railway stations of Moldova was attributable to crops and flour production and made up 58.5% against 45.3% in January-March, 2013; it was followed by ferrous scrap metal (15.4% against 20.4%) and building materials and cement (4.7% against 4.7%).

A volume of motor car cargo transportation in Moldova decreased by 0.8% to 1 million 061.6 thousand tons in January-March, 2014. Biggest amounts of cargo were transported by hauliers of Chisinau and Balti, making 54.8% and 9.6% respectively.

Then followed the regions of Nisporeni (4.8%), Floresti (4.6%), Straseni (4.4%), Ialoveni (3.3%), Taraclia (2.6%), Sigera (2.1%), Gagauzia and Anenii Noi (1.9% each), Edinet (1.8%), Rezina (1.5%), Hincesti (1.2%), Soroca (1%). The volume of barge cargo transportation increased 59.8% to 19,500, the air cargo transportation shrinking 42.8% to 0.2 thousand tons.
