OREANDA-NEWS. May 07, 2014. According to the latest figures, the Russian Railways' network loaded 101.9 million tons of freight in April 2014, 0.7% less than in April 2013

Freight turnover in April 2014 increased by 3.4% compared to April 2013 and amounted to 190.5 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover in the same month taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 4.1% and amounted to 243.2 billion ton-km.

Loading in January-April 2014, according to the latest figures, was 395.8 million tons, which corresponds to the figure for April 2013.

The following goods were shipped. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to last year:

coal – 101.6 m tons (-1.4%);
coke – 3.7 m tons (-5.2%);
oil and petroleum products – 86.8 m tons (+3%);
iron and manganese ores – 35.4 m tons (-1.1%);
ferrous metals – 23.4 m tons (-1.9%);
ferrous metal scrap – 4.1 m tons (-3.1%);
chemical and mineral fertilisers – 17.3 m tons (+10.5%);
cement – 8.8 m tons (-6.3%);
timber – 13.6 m tons (+11.7%);
grain and milled products – 5.1 m tons (+62.5%);
construction materials – 43.8 m tons (-10.4%);
non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 6.3 m tons (-5.6%);
chemicals and soda – 8.8 m tons (-1.7%);
industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 10.1 m tons (+5.5%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2014 amounted to 727.4 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 5.9% on the same period in 2013, while freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs was 969.5 billion ton-km, up 7%.
