OREANDA-NEWS. May 08, 2014. The number of beef cattle in Estonia has tripled to 60,000 in a decade, forcing farmers to seek export possibilities.

The Ministry of Agriculture has began drawing up a development plan for beef breeding which would tackle the issue of over production, as Estonians currently do not consume all the nation can produce.

The plan would also focus on increasing and guaranteeing stable quality, popularizing consumption in Estonia, increase cooperation between breeders and finding ways of increasing beef's societal value.

Estonians eat around 15 kilograms of beef a year, a third less than chicken and three times less than pork.
