OREANDA-NEWS. Fujitsu announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Yokogawa Medical Solutions Corporation (Yokogawa Medical Solutions) to jointly create new businesses focused on "the future of medical care." Yokogawa Medical Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Yokogawa Electric Corporation, develops radiology-information systems and medical-imaging systems for hospitals. Under this agreement, Fujitsu will take a minority shareholding in Yokogawa Medical Solutions.

Since it was founded by Yokogawa Electric in 1993 as a medical-business project, Yokogawa Medical Solutions has grown to provide mainly large and medium-sized hospitals with medical-imaging and radiology-information systems. More recently, it has expanded into radiology-therapy information systems, where it has built a strong foundation of technology and expertise.

Fujitsu, starting with its electronic medical record systems, has been active in the fields of healthcare and social welfare, and in December 2013 launched the Center for the Future of Medical Care, the goal of which is to pursue at medium- to long-range technology development and create new businesses and new markets in the field of next-generation health and medical care.

Leveraging their expertise and technological strengths in healthcare and social welfare, the two companies will look for ways ICT can be effectively deployed to create next-generation healthcare and medical care, including in such areas as promoting better health, preventing serious disease, early detection of disease, and personalized medicine.

This alliance will bring together the expertise and technology of the two companies to conduct joint research and development in areas such as radiological therapy, an increasingly important field as the number of cancer patients increases. The two partners will also look to provide new services using ICT.

The two companies will work together to create new businesses focused on the future of medical care and build businesses in the field of next-generation health and medical care.
