OREANDA-NEWS. European Nuclear Conference started its work on May 12 in Marseille, France. The event is organized by European Nuclear Society.

Nikolay Drozdov, Director of the International Business Department of ROSATOM, took part at the plenary session of ENC 2014. He described Rosatom’s approaches to financing foreign NPP construction projects. Mr. Drozdov told that ROSATOM monitors the implementation of different financing models which are executed in Europe. In particular, Rosatom sees the potential in “contract for difference” model, which is offered in the UK and is now actively discussed in the European Union. One of the advantages of this model, according to Mr. Drozdov, is that it protects investors from potential changes in governmental policies and in public perception of nuclear energy. Mr. Drozdov is sure that in case the pilot project based on the “contract for difference” model is successfully implemented in the UK, this model may launch a new trend in development of nuclear energy in the Central European countries.

The ENC is traditionally held every two years in different cities of Europe and is attended by representatives of European and international nuclear companies, research institutes, and governmental regulatory bodies. This year more than 200 reports are presented at the event on different topics of the nuclear industry development, including NPP operation, new build, training and education, nuclear fuel fabrication, etc.
