OREANDA-NEWS. May 15, 2014. Kazakhstan ranks 50th among 148 countries as a result of 2013 in the global competitiveness ranking of the World Economic Forum, Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Yerbolat Dossayev said at CCS briefing.

The Minister noted that today Kazakhstan is at a transitional position from the second stage of effective development to higher third stage of innovative development, where efficiency factors and innovative development are attached a higher importance.

According to Doing Business rankings Kazakhstan is the 50th among 189 countries, improving its position by 3 points.

Improvement of Kazakhstan's position was due to time saving for registration of companies in the public service centers, as well as introduction of a compact procedure for registering property, Yerbolat Dossayev said answering questions from journalists at the CCS briefing.

Kazakhstan has also entered the top 20 leaders on property registration and level of taxation.

In the global competitiveness rankings of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) Kazakhstan ranked 34th among 60 countries, reducing its positions by 2 points insignificantly, Minister of Economy and Budget Planning Yerbolat Dossayev said.

In the Human Development Index of UNDP Kazakhstan ranked 69th out of 186 countries, reducing its positions by one point, Minister said.

Kazakhstan is among the group of countries with high human development. It is 140th out of 177 countries.

Kazakhstan has worsened its position in the Corruption Perception Index Transparency International for 7 points.

Reduced in position is due to evaluation of the country by 2 points compared with last year, and changes in the method of calculating Corruption Perceptions Index in 2013 to better reflect the changes in the dynamics of the situation with corruption in the countries evaluated, Y.Dossayev informed.

There is an improvement in the position of Kazakhstan in the Index of Economic Freedom Heritage Foundation by 1 point - 67 out of 185 countries.

Major role in improving was played by "Free entrepreneurship" (54th place, an improvement by 11 positions), "Monetary Freedom" (113th, an improvement by 15 positions) and "Freedom of Investment" (132nd, an improvement by 8 positions).

Thus, Kazakhstan is already among the 50 leading countries by three international rankings: is among 70 (67 and 69 places) by two rankings and is 140th by one ranking, Minister of Economy and Budget Planning said summarizing the work of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to improve the competitiveness of Kazakhstan in 2013.
