OREANDA-NEWS. May 22, 2014. Cargo carriers of all kinds transported 978.5 thousand tonnes in April, up 2.7% month-on-month and down 0.1% against last April.

In the reporting period, over 1,534,700 tonnes were transported by railways, up 18.4% against the same period of 2013, NBS reports. The biggest share of all cargoes loaded at railway stations of Moldova was attributable to crops and flour production and made up 52% against 34% in January-April, 2013; it was followed by ferrous scrap metal (17.5% against 22.4%) and building materials and cement (6.4% against 7.3%).

A volume of motor car cargo transportation in Moldova increased by 0.8% to 1 million 644.4 thousand tonnes in January-April, 2014. Biggest amounts of cargo were transported by hauliers of Chisinau and Balti, making 54.5% and 8.6% respectively.

Then followed the regions of Nisporeni (6.2%), Floresti (4.4%), Straseni (4.4%), Ialoveni (4%), Sigera (2.5%), Taraclia (2.2%), Anenii Noi (1.8% ), Edinet (1.7%), Rezina and Gagauzia (1.6% each), Hincesti (1.3%) and Soroca (1%). The volume of barge cargo transportation increased 47.8% to 36,200 tonnes , the air cargo transportation shrinking 43.9% to 0.2 thousand tonnes.
