OREANDA-NEWS.  June 04, 2014. A 300,000-ton level Liberian cargo—STEVEN successfully berthed alongside Zhoushan Wugang Dock in Zhejiang province, which was the largest ship berthing alongside this dock ever since its pilot production.

It’s known there is a discharging berth at 250,000- ton level alongside the dock. The hydraulic structure is designed based on the berthing ships of 300,000 tons. The dock is equipped with 250,000-ton level channel. According to the classification of berthing levels from Ministry of Transport, 300,000-ton level cargo has gone beyond the design capability of the company.

Currently, the trend of large-sized ocean-going vessels has made Zhoushan Wugang Dock to focus on the berthing of 300,000-ton level cargo which was not fully loaded for winning over more resource. For ensuring the successful berthing and discharging of the first 300,000-ton level overseas cargo, the company had proactive interaction with Port and Channel Bureau and Pilot Station in Zhoushan for the governmental support. Furthermore, on April 17, it contacted Zhoushan Maritime Safety Administration to arrange a special safety assessment meeting to ensure the cargo to safely pass in and out of the channel.

On the cargo berthing successfully, the dock was in the hustle and bustle. 3 ship unloaders with single rated capacity of 2,500 tons per hour reached out the long arms to lift up the iron ores from STEVEN ashore with grabs, which were then transmitted to yard and loading dock through belt conveyors. It’s known the 327m-long and 55m-wide STEVEN was loaded with iron ores WISCO International Economic and Trading Company imported from Australia.
