OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2014. As per amendments in roaming directive of the European Parliament and Council, new calling rates in the EEA (European Economic Area) countries become valid on July 1, 2014.

Outgoing calls will be priced at EUR0.28 per minute (incl. VAT), and calls received will be priced at EUR 0.06 per minute (incl. VAT).

Because the operators can offer lower prices than set by the directive, EMT retains free reception of calls for its contractual customers in Latvia (LMT network) and Lithuania (Omnitel network), and first free minute of calls received in Finland (Sonera network). Additionally, SMS will cost EUR 0.072 (incl. VAT) as of July 1.

A daily cap continues to apply to internet usage abroad, but the pricing will be more customer-friendly as of July 1. In Baltic and Nordic countries, data usage of residential customers will be capped at EUR 2.94 for 100 MB, and in other countries of the European zone EUR 5.75 for 100 MB. Business customers will be charged VAT on these prices. Price per MB will change in Baltic and Nordic countries and countries of the European zone as well, dropping from EUR 0.54/MB to EUR 0.24/MB.

Daily data cap will also change for roaming zone 3 (the U.S., Canada, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus). Residential customers will pay EUR 9.95 for 100MB, business customers EUR 9.95+VAT for 100MB.

Previously, the daily cap was different for phones and computers, but now it is unified. The daily data cap will be 100 MB in all three zones for using internet both on phone (previously 20 MB) and computer (previously 50 MB).

Daily data cap is applies automatically for all EMT customers traveling in Europe and selected non-European countries. The daily cap enables to use internet abroad on any device without having to worry about large bills. When the user reaches the cap, EMT will send an SMS with an option for buying more data. If the user chooses not to buy more data, internet connection will be suspended until the end of the calendar day.
