OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2014. Approximately 4 thousand dollars will be spent for 1 kW / h of electricity in construction of nuclear power-station in Kazakhstan.

The press conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan, Committee on Atomic Energy of the MINT, National Nuclear Centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Masayoshi Kamohara, scientists and specialists of Japan.

Possible start of construction of the station, taking into account perspectives of regional development and industrialization program, is expected in 2018.

Until that time, the research and design studies will be conducted in the first period after the decision to build the nuclear power-station near the city of Kurchatov and Lake Balkhash.

"It will take 2-3 years. In addition, it will be necessary to make the necessary financial models for the practical implementation of the project. We believe that the decision to build nuclear power-station work can be done smoothly and the first power units may be put into operation at the turn of 23-24 years, Vice Minister of Industry and New Technologies Bakhytzhan Dzhaksaliyev said at a press conference.

According to him the construction of such facilities requires accomplishing expensive, large-scale and science intensive tasks. This requires a serious potential and Kazakhstan has so much potential, primarily human and natural resources.

"Construction of nuclear power-station is not cheap, taking into account security decisions and further conservation. But I must remind you: NPS operates at least 60 years, and even 80 and 100 years. In fact, there is a warranty in the project. Return of capital costs will be achieved through the least costly fuel resources. This tells you that, expensive to build - cheap to exploit. We will get all the benefits from  its long-term maintenance," B. Dzhaksaliyev commented.

Working in this direction, Kazakhstan is studying the experience of other countries, including neighbours. For example, the experience of the Republic of Belarus that has adopted many regulations and 2 laws of on construction of nuclear power-station.
