OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2014. AB "Lifosa" was visited by Almantas Petkus, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Environment, together with the group of experts from the Waste Department and Environmental Projects Management Agency under the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania.

To the representatives of the Ministry, the history of the company and results of activity were introduced by Jonas Dastikas, General Director of AB "Lifosa". During the meeting, the greatest attention was paid to protection of environment. J. Dastikas provided detailed information about achievements of the company in the field of environmental protection and prospects thereof.

"In 2013, a portion of the investments allocated to reconstruction of the plant was used for environmental mitigation measures. For the time being, a sulphuric acid department is under renovation. The aforementioned project will enable to reduce sulphur dioxide emission to the atmosphere by three times", - pointed out J. Dastikas.

Survey of the dumpsite of phosphogypsum persuaded the experts from the Ministry that it is non-hazardous waste stored at "Lifosa" very carefully and in compliance with strict safety requirements.

According to J. Dastikas, in the year 2014, expansion works of the dumpsite of phosphogypsum have been completed providing a possibility to store non-hazardous waste at this site for the nearest 15 years.
