OREANDA-NEWS. Power is the source of life and one cannot imagine life without electricity. Jamshedpur is the only city in Jharkhand and probably one of the cities in India to have 99.9% power availability and reliability. The transmission and distribution loss is also one of the lowest in the country at 4.5%. This has been achieved because of our continuous effort to improve efficiency in the delivery process and better utilization of assets. Regular maintenance of sub-stations and replacement of old assets have resulted in such a benchmark performance for the last so many years. Power service at Jamshedpur has always been rated as one of the best in the country. The testimony of this is the award from the Ministry of Power, Government of India as the Best Power Distribution Company in India for 2 consecutive years 2012-13 and 2013-14. As a result, Jamshedpur has been consistently identified for its quality of life and has been rated as one of the most liveable cities among Tier2/ 3 categories by leading market research agency.

JUSCO had given the petition to the Honb'le Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) for tariff revision which has been approved and would be effective from 1 June 2014. Because of lack of quorum in the JSERC, the petition was pending for more than 2 years. Now with JSERC in position to take decision on the pending tariff revision of all the discoms and generation companies, the order has been released for tariff revision at Jamshedpur. Details given below:

Domestic and Commercial tariff - There has been an increase of around 8% to 9% in this category. This category constitutes 99% of our consumer base.

Industrial tariff - In this category there has been an increase of around 17% to 18%. This constitutes four different categories:

HT 1 - primarily consists of Hotels/ Malls/ shopping complex/ Multiplex, etc.

HT 2 to HT 4 - primarily consists of medium and large scale industries.

DSHT (Societies) - All housing societies comes under this category like Ashiana, Vijaya Heritage, etc., where there is bulk supply. Increase of around 8% to 9% has been approved.

JUSCO purchase power from DVC and Tata Power and the cost of power purchase has increased over the last few years. All generating companies have been given tariff hike which results in increased cost load on the distributing companies. But inspite of increase in the purchase power cost, JUSCO has managed to curtain the cost and not pass on the entire cost to the consumers. Because of efficient and effective asset management, power tariff at Jamshedpur is one of the lowest in the country. Almost all States in the country are facing acute power shortage scenario and there has been power cuts across States like Jharkhand, UP, Delhi. Many States have given orders to cut power loads to Mall, Multiplex, shopping complex after 10.00 pm and even for general services like high mast and big halogens in the streets. But Jamshedpur is enjoying almost 24 hour power supply even during this peak summer. So let's join hands and conserve power for future and become a Zimmedaar Nagrik of Jamshedpur.
