OREANDA-NEWS. JSC 'Katavski Cement', part of EUROCEMENT group, held the traditional environmental Campaign, "We live and work here", which is held annually at all 16 of the Holding's plants in Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. This year, it has grown from a simple volunteer work event to a large-scale initiative, which encompasses the distribution of informational materials on protecting and rationally using natural resources, as well as regular environmental education work with young people.

For two months, every industrial division of JSC 'Katavski Cement' was involved in restoring the areas assigned to them - cleaning out last years old leaves, whitewashing curbs, sweeping sidewalks, painting benches, and decorating fountains.

In addition, on the eve of Victory Day, the company's young professionals and veterans celebrated the military holiday by beautifying the factory square in the center of Katav-Ivanovsk. Cement workers of all generations landscaped flower beds, planted flowers, swept sidewalks, painted benches, and whitewashed curbs. It is worth noting that it is here, by the monument to soldiers and cement workers killed during World War II, that JSC 'Katavski Cement' holds an annual Victory Day memorial.

The traditional holiday at the end of May was the culmination of the "We live and work here" campaign. After the opening ceremony of the campaign, employees of JSC 'Katavski Cement' conducted a large-scale planting of flowers: petunias, marigolds, nasturtiums, asters, daisies, calendulas, and others. They also trimmed shrubs and trees, swept paths, and whitewashed fences. Trucking equipment was contracted to help perform the work. According to tradition, workers at the factory cafeteria cooked delicious pastries and brewed hot tea for the participants in the environmental Campaign.

It is worth noting that the majority of trees planted by cement workers at the factory and areas belonging to the factory during the "We live and work here" and 'Plant a tree, save the planet!' Campaigns have survived. Only last year, JSC 'Katavski Cement' planted approximately 50 birch and fir saplings. With each passing year the young trees thrive and grow, bringing more and more benefit to the environment.

The company intends to continue planting trees. The JSC 'Katavski Cement' cement workers are already planning to plant dozens of rowan and birch trees in the coming fall for the 'Plant a tree, save the planet!' Campaign.

The Katav-Ivanovsk cement plant also holds other environmental events. Every year, students of all ages form environmental brigades at the various companies of EUROCEMENT group. Their purpose is to educate young people about the environment, to inculcate the principles of environmentally responsible behavior, and also to organize youth activities for summer vacation and school breaks.

Another traditional environmental project of JSC 'Katavski Cement' is an event held at the favorite tourist destination - the Serpievskiy cave city located in the Katav-Ivanovsk municipal district. The event, first begun by the company in 2012, and already held twice, is aimed at cleaning garbage from the area of the Serpievskiy Reserve and its unique caves, which are Russian natural monuments. For two years the company has teamed up with volunteers to remove over 10 thousand liters of garbage from the Serpievskiy Reserve. In 2014, JSC 'Katavski Cement' will continue its efforts to clean the natural monument.
