This amount includes about EUR 7 million to be invested in the construction of a multi-level parking space; EUR 10 million will be invested into the broadening of the air terminal by 2,300 sq m; and modernization of 4,000 sq m of the station whose total floor space amounts to 11,000 sq m; at least EUR 30 million will be allotted to upgrade the platform, taxiways and the runway, Avia Invest Director General Petr Jardan said.

The key goal of broadening the terminal is to increase its traffic capacity from 420 to 750 passengers an hour. The works start in September 2014. In July, the company calls for bids to select a designer to upgrade the platform, taxiways and the runway.

The company can launch the works to modernize the runway after it gets approvals from all operators since the runway under reconstruction will be not available for 8 hours at nights.

The runway is going to be broadened from 45 meters to 65 meters, which will make it possible to receive D -airplanes flying transatlantic flights. As InfoMarket reported earlier, in 2013 Chisinau International Airport served 1.32 million passengers, up 8.26% year-on-year. Currently, the airport partners with 16 air companies that operate flights to 29 directions.
