OREANDA-NEWS. President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-hye.

As reported earlier, President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-hye arrived in Uzbekistan with three-day state visit on 16 June 2014.

During the talks, the sides discussed current state and priority directions of expanding many-sided Uzbek-South Korean cooperation for long-term perspective, actual regional and international issues.

The sides affirmed their intention to continue to implement large-scale project on developing and processing gas reserves at Surgil field. South Korean consortium and Uzbekneftegaz are implementing the project with the cost of USD 3.9 billion.

Presidents agreed to cooperate on projects on construction of Talimarjan thermal power station (USD 1.2 billion), creation of capacities on liquefied gas production (USD 3.1 billion), development of Kandym complex with construction of gas processing complex (USD 4 billion), Yonhap news agency reported.

The sides are also planning to cooperate in construction of solar power station in Samarkand region. The project cost is USD 300 million. project is expected to be put up for a bid later this year. If South Korea wins the contract, the country could boost its chances of taking part in a separate project to build a 4 gigawatt solar power plant in Uzbekistan by 2030, the Korean officials said.

Presidents of two states underlined that the sides should boost cooperation in information and communication technologies, environment protection, textile, construction of railroads and automobile roads.

After the talks, the sides signed a package of documents. In particular, two leaders signed a joint declaration on further developing and deepening strategic partnership.
