OREANDA-NEWS. From 9 to 15 June 2014, long-distance trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company carried 2.18 million passengers, an increase of 9% over the same period last year. Passenger numbers departing from and arriving at stations in Moscow amounted to 466,800, an increase of 116.7%.

The Day of Russia is a public holiday which this year fell on 12 June. Federal Passenger Company trains thus carried their maximum number of passengers on 11 June, when over 368,000 people travelled. Passenger traffic in the opposite direction was most intensive on 15 June, when 392,000 passengers travelled, 107.3% more than in 2013.

To meet the increased demand for passenger transport from 9 to 15 June, the Federal Passenger Company laid on 66 additional trains, which made 103 journeys.

Additional trains ran on the most popular routes: from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Kazan, Izhevsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Vologda, Tambov, Voronezh, Saratov, Volgograd, Samara, Penza and Ulyanovsk.

From St. Petersburg, additional services were put on to Moscow, Cherepovets, Belgorod, Tambov and Voronezh.

Passengers were also offered extra trains to neighbouring countries, including from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Brest in Belarus, as well as additional train number 70/69 Moscow – Helsinki.

From 1 June 2014, branded train number 32/31 Leo Tolstoy is operating on the route Moscow – Helsinki following the refurbishment of its rolling stock.

In the period from 9 to 15 June 2014, Federal Passenger Company carried over 6,200 passengers on international trains.
