OREANDA-NEWS. CLT’s entrance sign on Josh Birmingham Parkway was removed today to make room for construction of the Airport’s new exit lanes.  Rite Lite Signs, Inc. of Concord, who  oversaw the project, used cranes to disassemble the sign into three sections.

It was transported to a storage facility and will be repainted, refurbished and eventually relocated onto Airport property.  The exact location is still being discussed.  Click here to view video of the sign being removed.

The monumental 16 foot by 21 foot welcome symbol has been a staple at CLT since the early nineties.  It was originally burgundy, but in the summer of 2009 was given a makeover and painted blue.

The sign sits in the path of CLT’s new exit lanes, which will connect drivers directly to Wilkinson Boulevard. Completion is scheduled for December.
