OREANDA-NEWS. Petrobras's production in the pre-salt has set a new record. Petrobras has surpassed 480,000 barrels per day there. According to the prestigious British Evaluate Energy consultancy firm, which specializes in research and studies on the oil and gas industry, we are the only oil company to attain a production increase in the past six years, compared with other majors operating in the global industry. Our oil production rose from an average of 1,918,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), in 2007, to 2,059,000 bpd in 2013, up about 140,000 barrels per day, considering the fields operated in Brazil and abroad.

This is the outcome of our massive investments in exploration and production development in recent years. And the forecast is that we will close 2014 with a 7.5% growth over 2013, with a 1 percentage point margin of error up or down.

Production in the pre-salt

The fast pace of production in the pre-salt province - which has been setting record after record in recent months - proves the investment strategy was correct. For example, on June 9, oil production in the province rose above 480,000 bpd in the fields that we operate in the Campos and Santos Basins, a new daily production record.

This level of production was achieved a mere eight years after the discovery of the first field in the pre-salt layer, in 2006, with the contribution of only 24 producing wells, of which nine in the Santos Basin and the other in the Campos Basin.
