OREANDA-NEWS. July 07, 2014. Led by Vice President Zhang Zhiyin and composed of members from such divisions as Sinochem Oil, Sinochem Petroleum Exploration and Production Co., Ltd.(Sinochem E&P for short), and Sinochem Quanzhou Petrochemical Co., Ltd., a delegation from Sinochem Group attended the 21st World Petroleum Congress in Moscow, Russia.

Revolving around the theme of “Provide Energy Responsibly, Support the Developing World without Reservation”, Sinochem's exhibition stand employed every possible means, including multimedia, physical models, display panels, and printed publicity material, to project a positive image of the company and showcase its development across its industry chain in the petroleum and gas sphere, with a special focus on what active measures and what notable results it has taken or achieved in its company-wide effort to build itself into an intrinsically safe, environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient company. The exhibition effort by Sinochem Group attracted a large number of government officials, potential partners, and representatives from the exhibitors at the Congress.

During the Congress, Vice President Zhang and his entourage paid a visit to Chairman Zhou Jiping of China National Petroleum Corporation, Vice President Zhang Yaocang of Sinopec Group, Deputy General Manager Li Fanrong of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, and other senior executives from petroleum businesses, and exchanged views with representatives from international oil companies like Total and BP and from the governments of some oil-producing countries, with a view to gaining a deeper understanding of the development strategies of international oil companies and changes of policy in resources-rich countries and holding discussions on topics of common interest like the development of the oil and gas industry and the cooperation in the industry. At the Congress, two papers submitted by Sinochem E&P's employees were rated as excellent papers and were posted on-site. The first paper, written by Jiang Peihai, was titled “Exploration and Development Potential in the Deep-water around the World and Prospects for Such Exploration,” while the other one, written by Xiao Fangfeng, was titled "Exploration for Turbidite from the Cretaceous Period in the Passive Continental Margin Basins in the Equatorial Atlantic Ocean: from Ghana to French Guiana to Brazil."

The World Petroleum Congress is the only international trade fair for technology and equipment in the petroleum sphere. Over 5,000 representatives attended this Congress, which involved over 500 exhibitors showcasing their products across a total floor space of 55,000 square meters. This year's event is larger in scale than any previous one. At the Congress, energy ministers from over 30 countries and leaders from over 400 companies showed up to hold discussions on a wide range of topics in the petroleum sphere, including new opportunities presented by the development of old oilfields, trends in the development of petroleum and gas technology, challenges faced by resources developers in the polar regions, the new boundary between conventional and unconventional petroleum and gas exploitation, and the impact of big data on decision making in petroleum businesses. The World Petroleum Council is the only international organization to represent the various spheres of the petroleum industry. It currently has 69 member countries and holds the World Petroleum Congress once every three years. The 22nd World Petroleum Congress is expected to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2017.
