OREANDA-NEWS. July 08, 2014. With support of Burlin District Akimat, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. held a public hearing at Burlin District Akimat office regarding the 2014 (August – December) Environment Protective Measures Plan and 2015 Environment Protective Measures Plan.

The 2014 (August – December) Environment Protective Measures Plan  consists of 10 main sections covering 25 actions, the 2015 Environmental Protective Measure Plan consists of 10 main sections and has 30 actions.

Representatives from the District Maslikhat, the Burlin Akimat and Karachaganak Field adjacent villages, members of community, initiative activist groups and mass media took part in the hearings chaired by Mr. Z.Kanalin, Burlin District Deputy Akim.

Mr. Luca Vignati, KPO Operations Director, made a welcoming speech mentioning the KPO’s high achievements in the area of environmental protection which is recognized at an international level. Mr. Vignati noted: “KPO puts ambitious goals in the area of sustainable development and remains committed to the safety, protection of environmental and the health of local communities”.

KPO presented the projects aimed to preserve environment and quality improvement such as: actions on preserving air, water and land resources including flora and fauna were presented to the public.

KPO representatives noted that the planned activities include the development of action plan on reduction of GHG emissions, rehabilitation of land after completion of construction works, reduction of surface water use for technical needs and other activities on industrial and domestic wastes management, air protection, and environment protection propaganda and education.

The total costs of 2014 (August – December) Environment Protection Plan implementation will make 739 billion tenge, and in 2015 will reach 3.69 billion tenge.

The attendees of public hearing from local authorities had an opportunity to ask questions to KPO representatives and get their answers. The raised issues include the signposts around the new sanitary protection zone at the Karachaganak Field, suitability of reclaimed lands handed over by KPO to authorities for grazing and crops

Concluding the public hearing, the Chairman said “We would like to thank KPO for informing the public and introduction of its Environmental Protection Measures Plan. We hope that our cooperation with KPO continues. I wish success, peace and prosperity to all”.

In general, the 2014 (August – December) Environment Protective Measures Plan and 2015 Environment Protective Measures Plan had a public support and approval.
