OREANDA-NEWS. July 08, 2014. Harvest season in underway in Uzbekistan. Works are in progress to harvest the grain grown by the strenuous labor of the dehkans and to timely and qualitatively plough up the release fields.

Important policy documents on this front are served by resolutions of the President of our country on organizational measures to harvest the yield of cereal crops in the year 2014, signed 22 May this year, and on measures to organize tillage of lands released from cereal crops in the year 2014. The works undertaken in this regard have been reported to the UzA correspondent by the deputy chairman of the Surkhandarya regional committee for nature protection Bahodir Urinov:

“Wheat is one the vital goods, it is bedrock of the population wellbeing. Straw is the source of pet foods. A rich harvest has been cultivated on the fields this year. The timely clearing of released fields from straw serves not only as a source of additional income for farmers, but also plays an important role in preserving the natural state of the soil. The works undertaken by corresponding agencies and organizations have been giving their positive results.

“This year, 3 thousand and 314 farmer enterprises in the region, on 98 thousand hectares, have grown high yielding and fast-ripening varieties of wheat catering to the local climate. 127 brigades assigned to with responsible people have been established for harvesting the grain crops without loss. 157 combines of the brand Claas, 113 of Case – in total 1,156 vehicles are drawn to harvesting the grain crops. In order to collect the straw from fields and prepare the soil for the upcoming yield, special groups have been formed from among experienced specialists, and explanatory works have been arranged. Stands with banners have been installed beside the buildings, fuel stations, reception points to caution about the negative consequences of burning down the straw on the fields, which facilitates the reinforcement of vigilance among the population.

“The timely and quality tillage of released fields helps save funds and water resources. Burning down the straw brings about emission of harmful substances into the air, namely, nitrogen, carbon, gas with a negative impact on the ecological state of the atmosphere. In addition, the structure of the soil is damaged, as a result reducing sharply the fertility of lands and deteriorating their reclamation state.

“The wide-ranging reforms undertaken under the leadership of our country’s President in the agricultural sphere serve as an important factor in the cardinal improvement of the state of soil and elevation of its fertility. The extensive development of farmer movement, the transformation in the attitude to the land, property and, crucially, labor allow for timely clearance of fields from straw, tillage and improvement of reclamation state of lands.

“Currently, step-by-step tillage of fields cleared from straw is going on.”
