OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2014. This was discussed during the meeting that the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Medvedev held on Monday with Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia, to discuss measures to protect the Russian market of agricultural products in connection with signing of free trade area between Moldova with the EU.

Dmitry Medvedev has paid attention to the fact that Moldova has already ratified the agreement on Association and free trade area with the EU, which has created a very different legal basis for the relationship with the Customs Union and Russia.

The first Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov noted that the Ministry of economic development of Russia set up a special group that is closely watching the development of trade relations, and predicts how trade relations with Moldova, as well as with Ukraine and Georgia will be developed in future. According to Igor Shuvalov, such fact allows Russia to apply the relevant restrictive measures.

"It is not only trade-related measures, but we can enter our usual common customs tariff, applicable in non-preferential regime to other countries, arguing that our national interests are violated," said Igor Shuvalov. He also added: “When the agreement within CIS with Georgia was concluded in 1994, we all proceeded from quite other principles, as we formed a single economic space, a free market for labor, capital, labor force and services. Igor Shuvalov stressed that the Council of the Eurasian economic Union will consider on July 16 possible protective measures in respect of trade relations with Moldova. According to him, the materials are prepared, aimed to be prepared for consideration.
