OREANDA-NEWS. Izhorskiye Zavody, part of OMZ Group, produced and dispatched a pressurizer for the second power unit of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant II, part of Rosatom State Corporation.

Shipping of the pressurizer became one of the last steps towards completion of a contract for production and delivery of reactor equipment for two power units of Novovoronezh NPP-2, signed by Izhorskiye Zavody and Rosatom in 2007. Under the contract Izhorskiye Zavody agreed to produce two sets of VVER-1200 reactor equipment, including reactor vessels with complimentary components, steam generator vessels, pressurizers, circulator pumps and other types of equipment with total weight of 3,500 tonnes.

In 2011 Izhrorskiye Zavody delivered the key piece of equipment, VVER-1200 reactor vessel, to the first power unit of Novovoronezh NPP-2. That was the first reactor vessel produced in Russia in last 20 years. Another reactor vessel for the second power unit was delivered to the customer in 2013.

Novovoronezh NPP was commissioned in 1964 and became the first nuclear plant to feature a reactor unit of VVER-type, later recognized one of the safest in the world. Each one of currently operational Novovoronezh NPP reactors was a prototype of water-to-water type reactors VVER-440 and VVER-1000 mass-produced by Izhorskiye Zavody afterwards.

Generation III+ VVER-1200 reactor unit produced for Novovoronezh NPP-2 is a kingpin of NPP-2006 project. The project features a number of design enhancements implemented to provide better safety level which complies with strict international requirements, as well as better operational performance and cost-efficiency, all while prolonging unit service life to 60 years. Izhorkiye Zavody is the only Russian enterprise that produces VVER-1200 reactor equipment.
