OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2014. The Agriculture Minister said that as commenting on Rosselkhoznadzor’s decision to impose a ban on the fruit import from Moldova.

According to him, the return of the exporters to the Russian fruit market depends on the Russian partners. Moldova’s authorities have foreseen Russia’s imposing the ban and taken measures to amend the order of subsidizing agricultural producers and to diversify the sales market. Vasile Bomacov has promised that the Government will take some other measures which are being considered by experts now.

Meetings with leaders of Rosselkhoznadzor will be held during which Moldova will try to resolve the challenges it is facing. According to the Ministry, everybody knows that quality of Moldova’s fruit and vegetables is rather good and the cases of exporting infected batches from Moldova were sporadic.

The same problems were typical for other countries having trade relations with Russia. It is useless to try to estimate the damage Moldova’s producers have borne due to the ban, he said. What is useful is to take action to restore the relations with Rosselkhoznadzor as soon as possible, to have the ban lifted and to diversify the sales markets. As for a scale of the damage, Vasile Bumacov reminded that last year Moldova exported 180,000 tons of apples to Russia.
