OREANDA-NEWS. The findings of the permanent overview conducted by Belarus' price supervision authorities testify to a new trend on the retail market in July 2014: retail prices of certain kinds of meat (beef, pork, chicken) and certain kinds of meat products are going down.

The government of Belarus posted a message to this effect at its official web site.

The government believes the decline in meat prices has resulted from the Economy Ministry's efforts to enforce antitrust regulations.

As previously reported, Belarus was there to witness a 1.2% inflation growth in June 2014, while in January-June 2014 consumer prices grew 10.2%.

Food prices grew 1.5% month on month in June 2014 (up 13.8% in Jan-Jun), including the price of foodstuffs - up 1.7% (up 12.7%), Belstat informed. Meat and poultry prices grew 3.9% on the month (+30.2%); sausages and smoked meat - up 4.1% (+15.3%).

Belarus' government originally expected inflation growth to stay under 11% in 2014, however in April the forecast was downplayed to 16-17%. Belarus' consumer prices grew 16.5% in 2013, while the government's forecast stood at 12%.
