OREANDA-NEWS.    In order to complete YVR’s annual runway maintenance requirements and  manage the peak summer travel period, Vancouver Airport Authority has made several changes to its summer runway operations.

SOUTH RUNWAY MAINTENANCE – JULY 4 TO AUGUST 1, 2014
As part of the Airport Authority’s comprehensive, multi-year runway maintenance program, the south runway will be closed nightly between 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.  During this time, the north runway, which is typically closed between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., will be used for take-offs and landings (or departures and arrivals). Runway maintenance cannot be completed during the day due to the amount of aircraft activity requiring use of the south runway.

Runway maintenance is necessary to ensure the continued safe operation of aircraft at YVR. Runway maintenance includes rubber removal, pavement line marking, edge erosion control, culvert cleaning and catch basin clearing.

It is our goal to have the work completed as soon as possible. If the project work is completed prior to August 1, 2014, normal operations will resume with the usual nightly closure of the north runway.
