Cooling towers are a critical aspect of thermal power plants and require fresh water in order to facilitate power generation. Blow down water is the routinely shed waste water from these cooling towers which contains highly-dissolved solid content. With the setting up of the reverse osmosis plant, waste water can now be recycled and reused. This unique waste water recovery plant is a fully automated PLC based system with a capacity of 240 cubic meters per day, thus enabling the saving of 7200 cubic meters of water per month.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. V.V. Namjoshi, Chief-Jojobera Station, stated, “Tata Power is committed to the preservation of environment and sustainable use of resources. Conservation of water is a top priority for Tata Power, and the Company has always emphasised on sustainable initiatives for eco-friendly operations such as reuse, recycle and recovery of water. Tata Power shall continue this venture for preservation of natural resources to reaffirm sustainable growth.”

The Company also motivates local residents to adopt roof top rain harvesting and other measures in order to recharge the groundwater aquifer which will keep the groundwater table intact. The initiative was appreciated by the village Panchayat and the local Mukhiya stated that Tata Power has provided great relief to residents of Sopodera, especially the poor who do not have access to pure and safe drinking water.
