OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2014. POSCO was ranked 177th in Fortune Global 500 announced by the U.S. economic magazine (Fortune) based on revenue in 2013.

POSCO was ranked 161st in 2010, 146th in 2011, 167th in 2012, and 177th in 2013, placing in the top 200 companies for four consecutive years. The company was considered to have produced such results due to proactive overseas expansion and technology investment, and various cost reduction activities and synergy management activities at a POSCO Family level.

Seventeen Korean companies were included in the Fortune Global 500 of which Samsung Electronics (13th), SK Holdings (64th), and Hyundai Motors (100th) ranked among the top 100. In addition, LG Electronics (194th), Hyundai Heavy Industries (209th), KEPCO (212th), Kia Motors (246th), GS Caltex (260th), KOGAS (340th), Hyundai Mobis (388th) S-Oil (427th), Samsung Life Insurance (458th), and LG Display (481st) were ranked among the 500 companies. Hanwha (331st), Samsung C&T (460th), and Lotte Shopping (464th) were newly ranked this year.

Meanwhile, Walmart of the U.S. was ranked 1st this year in the `Global 500`, surpassing Royal Dutch Shell (2nd) which was 1st last year.

(Fortune) has selected and announced the top global 500 companies each year based on the previous year`s revenue.
