OREANDA-NEWS. Education is a basic human right and has proved to reduce poverty, improve overall wellbeing, and promote equality. Understanding this, Tata Power has always initiated projects in its surrounding communities that have helped the children get access to basic education for their overall development. Continuing this effort towards spreading literacy, Tata Power's Haldia plant has undertaken an initiative to support the local children of Champi and Durgachak villages with quality educational materials.

Education support programme for community children

In Champi, more than 90 per cent of the population is from backward communities. The local children of the village study in the Champi Primary School and access to quality education is difficult. To help these children achieve educational excellence, Tata Power, under its Affirmative Action (AA) initiative, has implemented an outreach programme by providing essential educational material to more than 150 children.

Speaking about this initiative, Mr. Abhijit Ain Das, Chief, Haldia Station, said, “Through our CSR activities, we always try to improve the quality of life of our surrounding communities. One of our core agenda is to help the community achieve socio-economic prosperity. With this initiative, we aim to provide the children with basic education that would make them more employable and therefore, help them build a brighter future.”

Tata Power has always been focused on community development and will continue to undertake similar initiatives focussed at inclusive development.
