OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus' sugar export proceeds reduced 19.9% year on year in January-May 2014 to USD 125.46 million, a source in the profile ministry told.

Belarus exported 197,600 tonnes of sugar worth USD 125.46 million in January-May 2014, to compare with 249,900 tonnes worth USD 155.99 million exported in Jan-May 2013.

The average price of exported sugar stood at USD 634 per tonne in Jan-May 2014 to compare with USD 629 per tonne in Jan-May 2013.

Belarus exported USD 310.93 million worth of sugar in January-December 2013, up 6.5% year on year, while in physical terms sugar exports grew 24.4% to 561,100 tonnes. Export sugar prices stood at USD 619.88 per tonnes in 2013, 2012 - USD 646.94 per tonnes.

There are four sugar plants in Belarus (based Gorodeya, Zhabinka, Skidel, Slootsk), which process 28,000 tonnes of sugar beet a day. The sugar capacity of Belarus' home market totals 380,000 tonnes.

Belarus plans to increase the output of white sugar to 720,000 tonnes in 2015.
