OREANDA-NEWS. July 29, 2014. This was informed by the Minister of energy of Romania Razvan Nicolescu to the Prime Minister of the country Victor Ponta at the meeting of the Romanian government.

In his words, the representatives of the company Transgaz completed discussions on the agreement on management of Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline. Victor Ponta stressed that the unification of the gas transport systems of Moldova and Romania, which will give Moldova a chance to have alternative sources of gas supply is an important assistance and concrete support to the neighboring country.

According to InfoMarket, at the first stage Romania will supply to Moldova about 14-15 thousand cubic meters of gas per hour, and in the second stage of the project about 1.5-2 billion cubic meters per year. Operating the gas pipeline on the territory of Romania will be performed by the company Transgaz, and from the part of Moldova - the state enterprise Vestmoldtransgaz. Works on the construction of Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline was started on August 27, 2013. The total length of the pipeline will be 43,2 km, of which approximately 10.5 km will be laid on the territory of Moldova.

The total construction cost of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline is 26.5 million euros, of which 7 million euro – is EU contribution. Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline is built by a consortium of companies Habau PPS Pipeline Systems - Austria, Inspet and IPM-Partners (Romania).
