OREANDA-NEWS. July 29, 2014. Estonia will be hit by a fine of between 10 and 14 million euros for the overproduction of milk, says Agriculture Minister Ivari Padar.

“Lets be honest here, we have always know that if we overproduce, we will be fined,” he told Postimees today, adding that the sum is just an estimation and the precise size of the fine will be revealed at next spring, when production figures will be calculated.

Jaanus Murakas, the head of the Estonian Dairy Association, said rules stipulate that the companies buying milk from farmers will have to stump up the sum, and deduct from payments to farmers by October 2015.
