OREANDA-NEWS. Ingosstrakh Insurance Company has paid over USD 275.5 thousand as insurance indemnity in respect of the damage to Caterina motor ship in the Port of Harper (Liberia) in West Africa.

Caterina motor ship has been insured by Ingosstrakh Insurance Company since 2006 in the framework of CASCO insurance of marine vessels with liability for the total loss or damage, including war risks. The territory of the vessel's operation of is West Africa. The liability limit is USD 1.5 m.

The incident occurred on January 10, 2013. When entering the port of Harper, the ship touched bottom. Diving inspection did not reveal any significant visible damage, and the ship proceeded to the port of Greenville (Liberia). On January 13, 2013, during the departure from the port of Greenville it was found that water was coming into the steering compartment through the larboard stern tube. The vessel proceeded to the port of Dakar (Senegal) for scheduled maintenance work.

A more thorough inspection of the vessel was conducted with the participation of a Classification Society surveyor, and it revealed that the larboard propeller shaft had been damaged. The part was sent for repairs to the port of Tuzla (Turkey). During the repair works, Caterina motor ship continued its trips, using the main engine and the starboard propeller shaft. After the completion of the repairs, the renovated propeller shaft was installed on the ship during a scheduled dry-docking in the port of Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) in December 2013.

The incident was recognized as an insured event, and the repair costs incurred by the owner of Caterina motor ship were compensated by Ingosstrakh Insurance Company under the current insurance contract. Oakeshott insurance brokerage company (London), which supports the insurance of the vessel, also participated in the loss settlement process.
