OREANDA-NEWS. August 01, 2014. Representative of the ITER International Organization Arnaud Devred, Head of the ITER International Organization’s Superconductor Systems & Auxiliaries Section, paid a working visit to the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant (CMP).

Together with representatives of the Domestic Agency ITER, NRC Kurchatov Institute, JSC TVEL, VNIIKP and VNIINM he took a look of the superconducting material (SCM) production line in Shop No. 87 and Technical Control Bureau (TCB) as well as took part in the working meeting.

According to Arnaud Devred, the visit goal was to assess the current state of production of strands for toroidal and poloidal fields intended for the project “International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor” (ITER). He said that early 2014 there had been some difficulties in the production process and now he was pleased to know that they have been successfully solved owing to serious work of the plant’s specialists supported by workers of VNIINM and the representative of the Domestic Agency ITER. I consider our meeting extremely successful: we have got confident that the SCM production is under continuous monitoring and all results will be ultimately achieved by the end of the year, Arnaud Devred said.

Departure of some strand parameters beyond the statistical control boundaries were eliminated through studies of their structure, composition and properties, an integrated analysis of the obtained results and measures taken to improve quality of the input materials and technological cleanness of the production process.
