OREANDA-NEWS. August 08, 2014. Prime Minister Taavi Roivas met with Oman Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy today. The main topics of the meeting were the e-Government and ICT cooperation and economic relations between Estonia and Oman.

Roivas gave an overview of the development of e-services in Estonia to the Oman Minister and introduced the national objectives in the e-field. The Prime Minister said that in this area, Estonia is determined to achieve the Europe-wide use of digital signatures and the issuance of secure e-identity or e-residency for the foreigners.

“Wider use of digital solutions will create the prerequisites for economic growth and thereby increase the well-being of the population,” Roivas said. “Digital signatures are of great economic benefit and e-identity contributes to Estonia’s international competitiveness in many fields.”

The relations between Estonia and Oman are rapidly developing and especially good cooperation can been observed in the ICT sector. One of Estonia’s largest software development companies Nortal has been actively operating in Oman already for a number of years. Cooperation between Estonian and Oman ICT-experts on the development of e-Government services related to the registration of companies has been launched.

Roivas said that Estonia would definitely like to continue cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of e-Government. He also expressed hope that the relations between Estonia and Oman will also strengthen in other sectors.
