OREANDA-NEWS. August 12, 2014. Wuhan Surveying-Geotechnical Research Institute Co. of MCC Group (WSGRI) announced that, two items of WSGRI’s achievements passed through the authentication of scientific and technological achievements undertaken by MCC Group and were rated to be of worldwide advanced level.

The two achievements were independently made by WSGRI, namely: (i) Strengthening & Treatment Technology for Dam with Fine Grained Tailings; and (ii) Indoor General Testing Method of Benchmark Bedding Coefficient.

With regard to the Strengthening & Treatment Technology for Dam with Fine Grained Tailings, the new type anti-permeance reinforced composite component is taken as the study subject. Under this study project, the new type of components and the construction methods are developed. In addition, in-depth systematic research work is undertaken for: (i) the mechanical characteristic parameters in the interaction between the new type anti-permeance reinforced composite component and the fine-grained tailings rock-soil; (ii) the influencing factors on strengthening dam with fine-grained tailings through the new type anti-permeance reinforced composite component; and (iii) the functional mechanism of strengthening dam with fine-grained tailings through the new type anti-permeance reinforced composite component. As a result, an innovation has been made in the empirical formulas for calculation of critical hydraulic gradient damage by flow-soil type and piping type seepage deformation of fine-grained tailings. The technicians of WSGRI developed the rectangular (with round hole) anti-permeance reinforced composite component suitable for the strengthening and treatment of the dam with fine-grained tailings, obtained the technical parameters (such as the similar frictional coefficient between the aforesaid component and the four kinds of fine-grained tailings, and the shearing strength of the complex), and invented two strengthening methods for two kinds of such components.

Under these achievements, 8 items of patents have been applied (for instance, the Rectangular (with round hole) Anti-permeance Reinforced Composite Component), including 3 items of invention patents and 5 items of utility model patents, and three of which have been approved. Such achievement has been widely utilized in actual works and brought about outstanding economic and social benefits. Therefore it will enjoy a promising application prospect.
With regard to the Indoor General Testing Method of Benchmark Bedding Coefficient, the indoor test instrument for the Benchmark Bedding Coefficient (the maximum grain diameter is not larger than 5mm); the general testing, controlling and calculating methods have been worked out for the corresponding Benchmark Bedding Coefficient; and the problems for determining the Benchmark Bedding Coefficient through indoor testing methods; successful exploration has been made on the standard indoor testing methods for the benchmark bedding coefficient. Under this achievement, innovation has been made on the indoor test instrument for the Benchmark Bedding Coefficient, K30 test can be simulated at the original places and shallow level, and the boundary conditions can be simulated at the deep level. Furthermore the technicians fulfilled the R&D work on the general testing and controlling method through “Controlling Ways on Settlement at the Destination” which is applicable for both saturated soil and the non-saturated fine-grained soil.

Under these achievements, one invention patent and one utility model patent have been applied respectively for the Indoor General Testing Method of Benchmark Bedding Coefficient of Soil and the Indoor Test Instrument of Benchmark Bedding Coefficient. Such achievement has been widely utilized in actual works and has been proved to be of outstanding benefits, and therefore it enjoys a remarkable application value for promotion.
