Ongoing construction at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is expected to impact travelers during August with sidewalk closures, roadway lane closures, reduced overhead clearance on the Lower/Arrivals level of the Central Terminal Area (CTA), and in-terminal construction.

The efforts, part of the multi-billion-dollar, capital improvement modernization program underway throughout the airport, will ultimately result in a more modern, safe and stylish airport for Los Angeles.

Passengers and motorists are also advised that  the following roadway lane restrictions   are in effect on a nightly or continuous (24 hours, seven days a week) basis in the airport CTA:
 
There will be nightly closures to the two passenger pick-up lanes on the Lower/Arrivals Level of the CTA to install height-clearance warning devices in preparation for hinge repairs to the Upper Level roadway. Height clearance will be limited to 10’ 6” through May 2015 on the two Lower Level pick-up lanes. Rotating single lane closures on the Lower/Arrivals Level roadway will also be in effect on a continuous basis throughout the project. Warning signs and flashing lights have been installed to alert drivers of the new height restriction.  

Partial lane restrictions will be in place outside Terminal 4 on the Lower/Arrivals Level curbside lane nightly from 11 pm to 5:30 am for Terminal 4 Connector Construction. The Terminal 4 Connector project will build a bridge post-security screening, which connects the Tom Bradley International Terminal and Terminal 4.  Passengers will no longer need to exit one terminal and go through federal security screening in the other terminal to catch a connecting flight.  These lane closures will be ongoing through September 30.

Due to the ongoing renovation of Terminal 5, partial lane restrictions will be in place in front of the terminal on both the Upper/Departures and Lower/Arrivals levels. The Lower Level restrictions will occur nightly from 1 am to 4 am through September 30.  The Upper Level restrictions will occur along the curbside drop-off lane continuously through November 30.

Some crosswalks between Terminal 7 and Parking Structure 7 will be replaced to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. Work will continue through August 15 from 11 pm to 9:30 am.

North Center Way between Theme Way (the street near Parking Structure 2A) and East Way will be closed from 12 am to 11 am Monday through Friday, and from 6 am to 4:30 pm Saturday, as needed, continuing through August 29.  This is part of the Center Way Widening Project, which will result in a three-lane road for a portion of Center Way North, designed to help reduce CTA traffic congestion.

One of two lanes on the northbound portion of East Way will be closed from World Way North to World Way South through September 5 on a continuous basis for roadway improvements related to the Center Way Widening project.
 
Sidewalk restrictions and closures   will be in effect at the following locations: 
 
A sidewalk restriction will be in place on the Lower/Departures Level between Terminal 3 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal nightly from 1 am to 5 am through August 15 for construction related to the Central Utility Plant project.

Terminal 5 will experience intermittent sidewalk restrictions on both the Upper/Departures and Lower/Arrivals levels through October 31 to accommodate the Terminal 5 Renovation project.

The sidewalks along Center Way North will be closed from West Way near Parking Structure P2A and East Way, and along portions of East Way for the Center Way Widening effort. These closures will be in place through the rest of this year.

Portions of the sidewalk around Terminal 7 and Parking Structure 7 will be closed through August 8 during non-peak hours for ADA improvements to sidewalk ramps, sidewalk evenness, crosswalks, and parking stalls.
 
Renovations inside terminals are also underway:
 
Terminal 1: Gates 1, 2 and 3 will close in mid-August for apron reconstruction and passenger waiting area renovations as part of the Southwest Airlines renovation of the terminal space. The gates will open intermittently from summer 2015 through early 2016. Construction barricades will also be in place on the west side of all levels of Terminal 1 from August 7 to winter 2015 for renovations of office spaces and passenger waiting areas.

Terminal 4: As the Terminal 4 Connector Project -- bridging Terminal 4 and Tom Bradley International Terminal post-security -- continues construction on the airfield, it will restrict the use of some west-facing gates in Terminal 4. During the interim, passengers are being bussed to remote gates on the west side of the airfield. Construction of the Terminal 4 Connector is expected to be complete in late 2015.

Terminal 5: Delta Airlines is continuing its upgrade effort. Passengers will encounter construction barricades and work-related noise on both the arrivals and departures levels. Work is anticipated through 2015.

Airport officials are asking motorists to help reduce traffic congestion in and around LAX by taking public transportation to and from LAX, including the inexpensive and convenient LAX FlyAway® nonstop bus service at Union Station, Van Nuys, Westwood, Santa Monica, and Metro Expo station at La Brea. If picking up passengers, motorists are encouraged to park and wait inside their vehicles at the free LAX Cell Phone Waiting Lot at the intersection of 96th   Street and Vicksburg Avenue, adjacent to the entrance of LAX Economy Parking Lot C.
